Gamer Con is an organized form of competition involving video game playing. It's an intercollegiate gaming competition, once thought of as sort of a subculture endeavor, that has exploded in worldwide popularity to the point where 427 million people are expected to be watching some time next year.

There's even been talk that esports might become an Olympic event.

The competition in Albany next spring will involve the MAAC athletic conference of which Siena College is a member.

Esport athletes are the product of a STEM education. They compete for college scholarship money just like basketball and football standouts do.

Tickets are on sale now for Hudson Valley Gamer Con 2019. The price is $25 for adults, $15 for students.
