Rensselaer County residents meet to discuss ICE program concerns

May 02, 2018 06:42 PM

People in Rensselaer County were meeting Wednesday evening to discuss their concerns about the sheriff's department being involved in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement program.

Minority legislators filed a resolution urging Sheriff Patrick Russo to end the program. It allows local corrections officers to have some of the same power as federal immigration officers.

The resolution was never voted on, but is being resubmitted this month.

A NewsChannel 13 crew was attending the meeting. We'll have the details on, our 10 p.m. show on My 4 and NewsChannel 13 Live at 11.
