Inmate accuses Albany County corrections officer of rape

The sheriff's office is investigating rape allegations against a correction officer at the jail. Authorities say a female inmate came forward Saturday.
The inmate reported a jail guard had sexual contact with her three times in the last 10 or 11 days.
The sheriff says evidence has been turned over to the State Police laboratory. He says the officer was in a position of trust and he says it's becoming more and more apparent that trust was violated.
Authorities say the guard, who has not been publicly identified, has 19 years with the Albany County Sheriff's Department.
The female inmate, who was doing jobs as a tier runner, is a sentenced inmate with roughly two weeks left on her sentence.
Investigators say she alleges he had sexual contact with her by force, but any sexual contact between an inmate and officer is forbidden and would be considered rape as an inmate cannot consent.
She came forward with allegations on Saturday afternoon. The inmate was taken to the hospital to make sure that she's okay. She's now being held in protective custody.
Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says they take the complaint very seriously and they sent a small army of investigators after she made the allegations.
"Needless to say, we are vigorously investigating this as I am sitting here. We have things that have been turned over to the State Police laboratory. We have some interviews that we are following up on today and it's disheartening. It's totally disheartening."
Sheriff Apple says the officer will not be coming back until the investigation is complete.
