HUDSON - A young girl in Hudson says she was bound and raped by a man.

Police in Hudson say this is certainly a troubling case and that the girl was very brave and resourceful.

Authorities say the 10-year-old girl was tied up and raped by a man who had a knife. She managed to escape and ran several blocks with no shoes on to her mother's workplace.

Jamel Brandow, 36, of Hudson is charged with rape, unlawful imprisonment, menacing, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police were alerted Sunday morning by Columbia County 911 to a 911 hang-up call coming from a Hudson business. When police arrived at the business, they carefully followed up with a young girl who was upset.

Police say the 10-year-old girl had been tied up with zip ties and raped and was able to escape from the State Street home and run without shoes on to her mother's workplace.

Brandow is in jail with no bail.

Police say this was a violent and forcible sexual assault and that this case underscores the importance of following up on 911 hang-up calls.

Police describe the young victim as very bright and an A student. She has been released from Albany Medical Center.

Brandow was due back in court Tuesday morning. Investigators are concerned that he may have done something similar in the past. Anyone with any information is asked to call Hudson police.
