Troy codes enforcement officer accused of falsifying records

TROY - A Troy code enforcement officer is facing charges. James Lance was arraigned Thursday on seven counts including grand larceny, corruption and falsifying records.
According to court records, Lance gave a passing inspection to a city-owned property, even though he knew it was not up to code. That cleared it to be sold to a high-level official in the codes office.
The complaint says Lance told the buyer it was not up to code, but Lance's direct supervisor told him to send a letter saying it was. That had us wondering if more charges might be coming in this case. NewsChannel 13 asked the attorney general's office, but they refuse to answer.
A Troy city spokesman says Lance is on administrative leave, but so far hasn't commented on claims two higher-ups in the codes office may have been involved.
