John Craig is an award-winning journalist for both broadcast and print. He has been a general assignment reporter covering news, weather, sports and features on TV, radio and print in the Capital District since 2000. Before that, he worked as a reporter and anchor in Lansing, MI, Utica, NY, Kingston, NY, and Fredericksburg, VA. Stories he has covered range from the war in Bosnia, where he traveled in the summer of 1996, to the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach in New York City.
Additionally, he is a member of the Golf Writers Association of America and writes a weekly column for Digital First Media (Troy Record/Saratogian). John has run Capitalareagolf.com since 2008, covering local and national events including the U.S. Open and the PGA Tour.
He earned a degree in Communications and Journalism from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. He interned at NBC News in New York City and later interned and worked at CNBC in newsgathering and for “The Dick Cavett Show,” “Pozner/Donahue,” and “Rivera Live.” Other jobs he’s held include camp counselor, disk jockey for parties and custodian.
John grew up in northern New Jersey where his parents still live. He is the oldest of four brothers; one lives in New Jersey, one in Atlanta, GA, and one outside Durham, NC. John is married to NewsChannel 13’s Kumi Tucker and they have a daughter.
