Colonie man accused of trying to lure 12-year-old girl for sex

A 27-year old Colonie man is facing multiple charges related to child pornography and attempted rape after an investigation involving the Colonie Police Department Computer Crimes Unit.
Detectives say they were alerted to John Fleshman's online activity by authorities in Washington State. The Chelan County Sheriff's Office say Fleshman was engaging in sexual conversations and solicitng photos and videos with young victims. They were able to trace the IP address to Fleshman in Colonie.
Colonie police set up a sting operation with a detective posing as a 12 year old girl online. On Saturday morning Fleshman was arrested at Schuyler Flatts Cultural Park where he beleived he was meeting up with the girl for a sexual encounter.
Fleshman's digital devices have been turned over to the State Police Computer Crimes Unit.
Colonie police say their investigation has identified at least one local victim and they believe there may be others.

There are simple things you can do to help your kids from falling victim online:
- Tell them how dangerous it can be to talk to strangers, including on social media.
- Set up parental controls on smartphones and computers, blocking inappropriate websites.
- Keep the computer in an open space, so you can see what your kids are up to.
- Check browsing history, so you know what websites they're visiting.
