Rensselaer police sergeant dies in Hospice care

Rensselaer police are mourning the death of one of their sergeants. Joseph Carney, 52, died Saturday at Hospice.

Before joining the Rensselaer Police Department, he was an Albany County corrections officer and an Albany County sheriff's deputy.

Carney was born in Albany and a lifelong resident of Rensselaer. He leaves behind two sons.

There will be a funeral on Wednesday at the W.J. Lyons Funeral Home in Rensselaer.
