August 06, 2019 06:47 PM

Three agencies are investigating what led to the death of a Ballston Spa man who suffered critical injuries while in a Saratoga Springs police holding cell. They are the Commission of Corrections, the Attorney General's Office, and Saratoga Springs – which is doing an internal investigation.

NewsChannel 13 was first to break this story last week.

Justin Garrison, 30, passed away last Tuesday after suffering a medical event.

Right now, police are being tight-lipped, only saying that Saratoga Springs police did everything by the book.

Law enforcement sources tell NewsChannel 13 he died as a result of trying to take his own life with a blanket.

Garrison was being held as an alleged parole violator related to a fight on Kaydeross Avenue West on Saturday morning, July 27.

The State Department of Corrections says he was paroled from prison a few months earlier after serving two years for driving under the influence.
