Karen Tararache joined WNYT in July 2016 as a reporter and co-anchor of NewsChannel 13 Live at 11.
Born and raised in Queens, Karen initially pursued a career in the arts.
She studied at the Moscow Art Theatre Conservatory in Russia and co-founded Studio Six Theatre Company in New York City.
Her career in broadcasting started with Cablevision’s News 12 Networks as a traffic reporter in Long Island, New Jersey and the Bronx. Karen then had an opportunity to return to Moscow to be an international correspondent and anchor for Russia Today, an English-speaking station broadcasting to over 200 countries in the world.
At Russia Today, Karen extensively covered what would later be dubbed the “Snow Revolution.” Protestors hit the -40-degree frozen streets demanding fair elections after claims of fraud within the Russian election process. For her work during the Russian presidential election in 2012, Karen received a letter of excellence from Vladimir Putin.
Following her time in Moscow, Karen returned to New York, this time upstate to work for Time Warner Cable News. There, she created Capital Region Close Up, a segment that highlights the unbelievable talents possessed by individuals in the local arts community. Karen also had an unforgettable experience in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia when she reported on Pope Francis’ first visit to the United States.
Karen and her husband Jim live in Troy with their Beagle-Jack Russell mix Zenyatta. They enjoy hiking, participating in Spartan races and spending time with family and friends.
