Averill Park pizza staple opens for 61st season

AVERILL PARK - A Rensselaer County landmark is now open for its 61st season.

The ovens are on at Kay's Pizza in Averill Park and people packed the place on opening night.

Some of it's longevity. We've just been here for so long. But I think we go a little bit extra mile on our pizza. My son makes all the dough fresh every day, we grate the cheese fresh every day, we make the sauce fresh every day," explained Tom Lilly, the owner of Kay's. "So it's all fresh ingredients that we put a lot of effort into. It's a lot of extra work that we do to keep the pizzas up to par and it's the same recipe that we've been following since Kay was back in 1958 when she first started.

Kay's is open from April until October each year.
