Deadly tractor-trailer crash ties up Northway traffic

July 18, 2019 06:16 AM

All lanes were closed at Northway Exit 18 northbound for a time Wednesday, following a deadly crash involving two tractor trailers.

The left lane of Northbound traffic at Exit 18 was reopened at 5 p.m.

It's caused a massive back-up on the Northway all-day long on Wednesday.

People stopped off at a nearby rest stop to stretch their legs, use the bathroom and get something to eat after sitting in hours of traffic.

NewsChannel 13 also saw a three car accident take place just in front of the welcome center on Wednesday afternoon. Fortunately, it seems that no one was hurt in that collision.

State police say this all started around 3:30 Wednesday morning. That's when two tractor-trailers crashed around Exit 18.

Investigators say one of the tractor-trailers was disabled and was pulled over when the other came up from behind and struck it.

The driver that struck the disabled trailer died in the crash. Police have not identified the victim yet, but they say that the victim is from out of state.

They say the other driver in the disabled tractor was not hurt.
