June 07, 2018 07:26 PM

Albany police say the man killed Sunday on Interstate 90 had just murdered the woman found dead nearby on Erie Street.

Larnell Kennedy, 22, and Nahjayyah Daise, 21, had been dating on and off, according to police.

Investigators say Kennedy shot Daise in the head three times while she was driving a car on Erie Street. They say he was riding in the passenger seat at the time.

The car then hit a utility pole. That's when Kennedy tried to stuff Daise's body in the trunk. When that didn't work, police say he left the body in the road and then ran over it while trying to flee in the car. However, a witness in another car boxed him in.

Police say Kennedy then tried to run away on foot towards I-90. He was hit while trying to cross the highway.

Both were pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center.

Police are still trying to figure out the motive.
