SCHENECTADY - Dozens laced up their skates on Sunday to honor the memory of Alex Askenazy.

Askenazy played club hockey at Union College and was a member of the class of 2020. He passed away suddenly in October because of complications related to epilepsy.

To honor his memory, his Alpha Phi Omega brothers held a skating fundraiser raising money for Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy.

“Alex's reaction to this event would have been hilarious because he hated attention,” said Arielle Singer of Skate for Alex. “We all recognize he would not have enjoyed the event, but it's part of our healing process as his friends and it’s something we need to do.”

The fraternity says they've already raised more than $5,000 for the cause. If you'd like to give, click here.
