December 10, 2018 06:38 AM

State legislators are getting closer to a big hike in pay. The New York State Compensation Committee's final report on pay raises for State Senate and Assembly members is due today. Governor Andrew Cuomo and the legislature will receive the report on the committee's recommendations.

Last week the committee voted to approve a pay raise for legislators bumping their salary from $79,500 to $130,000. The hike would be phased in with lawmakers receiving $110,000 in 2019 and then additional increases of $10,000 per year for the next two years. It would be a 64% increase.

State legislators have not received a raise in the last 20 years.

The committee has suggested capping outside income for legislators at 15%.

If the raises are not challenged by the legislature if they are called to convene the raises will go into effect in January. Legislative leaders have not given any indication the raises will be disputed.
