Smaller crowds mark this opening day at Saratoga Race Course

The line outside the gate at Saratoga Race Course was shorter than it's been in past years. There wasn't much of a race for those precious picnic tables either.

The considerably smaller crowd began lining up before sunrise.

The gates opened at 7 a.m. for the not-so-race to the tables.

Longtime track goers who did line-up early noticed.
