Queensbury 4-year-old girl is youngest 46er ever

For most hikers in the Adirondacks, becoming a 46er is a lifelong goal. It was for a girl from Queensbury. She just happened to be 4 years old when she summited all 46.
Maebh Nesbitt is now the youngest 46er on record. Her parents say they did not carry her once during her 13-month journey.
"People say 'Did she climb all of that?'" said Siobhan Carney-Nesbitt, Maebh's mother. "If you were with her on the mountain at any point. Anybody who passed us on the trail and saw her in action. You knew that she climbed every step of the way."
Maebh is just 38 pounds. She's about half the height of the average 46er, but she might have twice the energy. Maebh's grandmother calls her a mountain goat.
"It can be humbling to times. Especially, when she gets to a rocky section and above tree line. She gets really excited and she just goes for an all-out sprint," said Lee Nesbitt, Maebh's father.
Maebh started her journey last summer when she was 3 with Cascade and Porter. Thirteen months later, she had done all the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, beating the 5-year-old who used to hold the record. Finishing on Big Slide.
It wasn't the first time for her parents to summit all 46. Technically, it wasn't the first time for Maebh either.
Siobhan and Lee carried Maebh on their backs up all 46 before this journey. Hiking is part of their story. They did the 46 for the first time together. Now Siobhan is on her eighth time doing them. That's why Maebh wanted to become a 46er.
All those grueling all day hikes are easier said than done for a 4-year-old. Maybe it's just being out in nature that makes it worth it for Maebh. Maybe it's the views.
"She'll just stand there and take it all in and be in complete awe," said Lee.
Or maybe Maebh was just made for the mountains.
Maebh now wants to take on the 115 highest peaks in the northeast. She also has another big challenge she's ready to take on this fall: Kindergarten.
