May 15, 2019 05:31 PM

For the first time, the Albany County "Citizen of the Month" is not a human being. A school therapy dog named "Maggie" received the honor on Thursday morning with some of her favorite second graders in the hilltowns.

Strolling the halls of Berne-Knox-Westerlo Elementary, one student calls Maggie "a walking happiness machine."

The 3-year old black lab will take as much affection as you can dish out - and give it back.

Maggie's partner, Katrina Emmerich, who is the school psychologist, says an angry or upset student is almost immediately put at ease.

Hear more about how Maggie helps the students, by watching the video of John Craig's story.
