Johnstown native Matthew Coons was 27 years old when he and his girlfriend Savannah Devonne Bursese died in the crash last October.

NewsChannel 13's Brooke Selby sat down with Matthew's mother, Jill Perez, who says she wants people to remember her son for his kind heart and his passion for family and friends.

Through the healing, she says remembering small moments from her son has made all the difference over the last year.

Jill says Matthew excelled at sports and even enlisted in the Army.

Despite her pain, she says she finds peace in knowing he was happy, content, and very much in love at the time of the accident.
