The Gloversville Holiday Parade is next weekend and the grand marshals are local celebrities for a reason they didn’t want.

They almost died in a motorcycle crash a year and a half ago. Now, there’s still plenty of healing to go but Rachel Ortega and Brandon Lehr say they’re excited for this year’s season of celebration.

“We’re very thankful,” Ortega said. “Very thankful for the supportive community, our wonderful friends, and loving family.”

The two were in a motorcycle crash last June after an alleged drunk driver hit them.

The two have dozens of injuries between them.

They both say their recovery wouldn’t have been possible without their coworkers. Ortega works at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Lehr is a captain at the Gloversville Fire Station — fully back to work now.

Lehr says his coworkers even helped the fix up their home to make it more handicap accessible.

They will lead the Gloversville Holiday Parade this year, saying someone donated a horse and buggy for them to ride in.

Right now the parade has 57 participants. It is December 11 at 4 p.m. NewsChannel 13’s Rachel Tiede and Meteorologist Christina Talamo will emcee the event.
