As we give presents this holiday season, one woman hopes we also share the gift of forgiveness with each other -- especially those who have been locked up behind bars.
Michelle Payette doesn't want kids with parents locked up to go without gifts this holiday season.
Around 2009 was when Payette says she had hit rock bottom. She was charged with stealing thousands of dollars from her employer, Adirondack Tire.
She says her life was spiraling out of control. However, the nearly two-year prison sentence was especially hard on her son.
Her church helped them maintain a relationship through a program called Angel Tree, which sends out Christmas gifts to children of incarcerated parents.
After being released, she found herself doing what the Angel Tree had done for her child.
Today, after having served her time, she's started her own program called Beacon of Light. Along with giving Christmas gifts, she addresses the other needs of families of the incarcerated.
