Moriah Formica is a star in the making.
Her star is about to get even brighter.

“I've been waiting for this moment for a long time,” Moriah Formica said. “I mean like ever since I was 6 years old.  You know when I first started playing guitar.”

The wait is over.

At just 16 years-old the singer and songwriter will compete against several contestants to become the next winning Voice -- in front of millions of people.

“At first I was like I don't know about these shows and then I thought how stupid would it be not to take this opportunity and now I'm so glad that I did,” Moriah said.

Family and Friends attending this watch party at Crossgates Mall during her debut Monday night said they could not be more proud of the Shaker High School student.

“I think she's going to do amazing things and she is so talented and the most deserving person I've ever met,” said Moriah’s friend, Madison Vandenburg.

Moriah’s father, Josh, has just one wish.

“I would echo what she has always said even at a young age and that is that people hear her and are inspired by her,” Josh Formica said. Hear her music hear her messages and her music.

“I love seeing my sister doing what she loves to do and do it so well and having all these people acknowledge that,” Moriah’s brother, Gabriel Formica, said.

Moriah has been singing since she was 9 years old.

She has been taking music lessons at Modern Day Music in Clifton Park for more than 5 years.

That is where she made her first album, which she finished last summer.

However, it has not been an easy road.

“Some moments I've had I've struggled with depression and anxiety,” Moriah said.

Not even that can stop her now.

“You guys can expect to see me in my natural habitat doing what I love and leaving it all on the stage,” Moriah said.

Moriah advanced to the next stage of The Voice during Monday night’s show to become a finalist.

She has chosen Miley Cyrus as her coach.

Moriah is no stranger to us here at NewsChannel 13. She performed on our noon show in July 2016.

"The Voice" airs at 8 p.m. on NewsChannel 13.

There is also a viewing party beginning at 7 p.m. It's at Jupiter Hall, inside Lucky Strike Social at Crossgates Mall.
