The latest comments from the state commissioner of corrections still have the prison on Mount McGregor closing July 26.

There have been protests and pleas from employees there to keep the prison in Saratoga County open.

But acting Commissioner Anthony Annucci says closing nine prisons already and closing another four this summer will save taxpayers $30 million.

He testified before legislators Wednesday and said the state inmate total has dropped from over 71,000 in 1999 to about 54,000 currently.
