New DNA rules help New York cold cases

Cutting edge advances in DNA technology have been helping police solve "decades-old" cold cases around the country. After years of red tape and delays, it's finally solved one here in New York.

You've probably heard of the Golden State Killer: a murderer and rapist who terrorized parts of California four decades ago. 
It's a case that was never solved until a breakthrough in DNA technology that is now solving similar cases around the country.
Technology that we discovered is finally making its way to New York.

Some of our local cold cases are still cold because police are barred from using those new investigative techniques. Find out why that is, and when it could change.
