New York state has unveiled its new license plate design.

After a statewide vote, the plate featuring Niagara Falls, the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline is the winner.

This winning plate pulled in nearly 50 percent over the vote and defeated plates featuring the Statue of Liberty and the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

The plates have been a lightning rod for controversy since they were announced.

Under the new plate proposal, anyone with plates older than 10 years will be required to pay for replacements and there will be an additional $20 fee to keep the same plate number.

Republicans call it a cash grab.

The governor says the fee has been $25 for a decade.
