Niskayuna has a new solar garden growing underneath its solar panels.

The garden is the Girl Scout Gold Award project of Niskayuna High School Senior Caroline McGraw.

McGraw and fellow Girl Scouts planted seeds of native plants under the panels this weekend.

The plants are better for the environment than using gravel or turf grass under the panels.

McGraw is also working with Assemblyman Phil Steck on a bill to promote this type of planting in solar parks across the state.
