NewsChannel 13 has a follow up to our story on the Adirondack High Peaks.

The Adirondack Council, Adirondack Mountain Club, and SUNY ESF have released some preliminary data. They surveyed about 700 hikers between August and October.

Only about half of those hikers were able to park at the trailhead where they planned to park. Most of the others parked on the shoulder.

The largest concentrations of respondents were from the New York metro area and Capital Region.

More than 90% said they have heard of "leave no trace.” Nearly 80% said they came to enjoy the solitude and wilderness character of the forest preserve.  Only 7% said they had no such expectation.
