ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state is continuing its push to expand the use of electric vehicles and create more infrastructure to keep them charged.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that a new EV expansion initiative - Evolve NY - is getting $250 million through the New York Power Authority.
The Democrat says the program will seek to create private sector partnerships that accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles throughout the state.
The funding aims to expand fast charger infrastructure by adding charging stations statewide. The state wants to install up to 200 fast chargers along major interstate corridors and in select urban areas.
The Power Authority is installing 400 public chargers at airports, train stations and municipal parking lots, and high-speed chargers are planned for Thruway service areas between New York City and Buffalo.
