Police say Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand was in his personal car, waiting to turn into the Fonda station, when he was rear-ended by a box truck and pushed into oncoming traffic. His vehicle was then hit by a pickup truck.

VanNostrand was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

VanNostrand has been with New York State Police since 2012. Before that, he spent eight years as a corrections officer. He leaves behind a wife, daughter, parents and siblings.

The driver of the box truck, 32-year-old Aaron Munsie, of Amsterdam, was not hurt. The driver of the pickup truck, 52-year-old Robert Crews of Fort Plain, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

No tickets have been issued. The crash remains under investigation. However, police do not believe weather played a role.

Gov. Cuomo has directed flags on all state government buildings be flown at half-staff in honor of Trooper VanNostrand from Wednesday, November 28 until his internment.
