New York’s eviction moratorium is set to expire Saturday, putting thousands of financially strapped New Yorkers at risk of being evicted.

The moratorium halted evictions if renters filed paperwork stating the pandemic affected their ability to pay their rent. The Times Union reports more than 1,400 Albany-area families face the unknown as the moratorium ends.

Some lawmakers have been pushing to pass the Good Cause Eviction bill. The bill would give tenants the right to a lease renewal and prevents landlords from removing a renter without an order from a judge.
