Niko DiNovo, Colonie teen badly burned in 2016 fiery crash, has died

A family friend has confirmed that Niko DiNovo died Monday at Westchester Medical Center, more than 16 months after being badly burned in a car crash in October 2016 at Blessings Tavern in Colonie.

Michael Carr, who was driving the car, is serving six years in prison after being convicted of felony assault and DWAI. Cecilia Walsh, spokesperson for Albany County DA David Soares, says charges against Carr will not be upgraded.

Trevor Hannigan, Carr's attorney, also confirmed there'll be no upgraded charges. That provision was part of the plea bargain arrangement.

Funeral arrangements have not been made public at this time.
