Tie them down like a sacrifice. Those were the directions Keith Raniere gave Allison Mack when the NXIVM leader was explaining how he thought his female slaves should be branded.

Audio recordings of meetings like this between Raniere and his inner circle were played this week in federal court in Brooklyn - where the 58-year-old is facing multiple charges, including sex trafficking and forced labor.

The self-professed self-help group, NXIVM, had another secret group within it - called Dos.

Raniere and Mack would take walks to discuss how to recruit additional sex slaves for Raniere. Mack recorded the conversations - in which Raniere explained how a woman should be held down while branded - and why it was important the brandings be recorded.

Raniere also talks about the importance of recording the brandings of his slaves - so they can be saved as collateral.

Hear some of the audio in the recordings by watching the video of the story.
