The New York State Legislature is making more changes in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police.

State lawmakers passed a law allowing the state attorney general to investigate and prosecute whenever someone dies following an encounter with police.

The bill strengthens and solidifies Gov. Cuomo’s executive order from 2015, which authorized a special prosecutor to investigate the deaths of unarmed people killed by police.

The governor says he will sign the bills.
