HAGUE -  Kate O'Keefe said, "This was easy," just a few minutes after finishing a relay swim of Lake George.

When you've delivered roughly 8,000 babies, apparently the rest is easy.

The recently retired OB/GYN rounded up a few of her friends last week and urged them to swim the 32-mile length of the lake in one-and-a-half hour shifts.

"We decided we needed to do something positive with all that's going on in the world," O'Keefe said Friday afternoon.

Most of the women are former patients of O'Keefe's. They range in age from 55 to 71.

"Yeah, menopause marathon," smiled O'Keefe.

Just after finishing Friday afternoon, the women said it went swimmingly.

"These ladies are beasts," O'Keefe said. "They just swam their full hour-and-a-half with no problems."

"I kept looking at my husband who was my boat driver and kept saying, 'This is so much fun,'" said Trish End, 66, of Queensbury.

The women are all recreational swimmers and typically get together for a weekly activity, but didn't train for the relay swim.

O'Keefe, who is 68, is a big proponent of routine exercise to remain healthy and encourages others to get outside

"Alzheimer's, cancer, heart disease, sex life, sleep patterns, everything is improved. There's all kinds of studies on this; there's no better activity that you can do than exercise."

Dr. O'Keefe says she's not sure what activity the women will take on next, but is certain it will include exercise.

"We're going to plan our next adventure."
