RENSSELAER - For years, people living near the Dunn Landfill in Rensselaer have complained about odors and blowing sand.

Back in April, the state Department of Environmental Conservation inspected the landfill and noticed clouds of dust migrating across Petition Street Extension.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced a $35,000 penalty.

The operator of the landfill must also install an air monitor and is required to hydroseed to ensure the sand stays in the facility.
