Woman's podcast giving a voice to people who stutter

May 10, 2018 06:55 PM

This is National Stuttering Awareness Week. Oftentimes, when people think of someone who stutters, they think of men. However, women stutter too -- although they are a minority within a minority. Now, a local woman is giving them a voice.

Pamela Mertz remembers the conversation that changed her life. Her boss told her she wasn't a good communicator. She was fired for stuttering.

Mertz used that pain to change her life and that of dozens of women. She started a podcast inviting female stutterers to share their stories.

In the eight years since she started, she's interviewed 176 women from around the world.
