Permanent memorial planned at Schoharie crash site

SCHOHARIE - The owners of the Apple Barrel Country Store and Cafe in Schoharie are honoring the victims of last weekend's deadly limo crash. They want to put a permanent memorial at the crash site, right next to their country store.

The Loden family owns the Apple Barrel. They made the announcement at the covered bridge in Schoharie Friday afternoon. They said they wanted to create a permanent memorial so the people had a place to come and heal, but also remember those 20 lives lost.

The Reflections Memorial Foundation is being established as a nonprofit organization to help create the permanent memorial site.

They've already planned an initial fundraiser concert at the Middleburgh picnic pavilion on November 3. They said Union College is also planning a fundraiser with Skeeter Creek.

Jessica Kirby is the President of the Reflections Memorial Foundation and is also a member of the Loden family. She said plans are in their infancy, but they may look to the public for help with the memorial design.

The Loden family has also raised about $10,000 for local first responders in the wake of this tragedy. Kirby said they are continuing to collect those donations at the Apple Barrel Country Store and Café for the time being.

You can find more information about donating and fundraising events on the Reflections Memorial Foundation Facebook page.

Donations to the Reflections Memorial Foundation can be made in person at any Bank of Richmondville branch location or by mail:
