PITTSFIELD, Mass. - A new ban on plastic bags is now in effect in Pittsfield.

The Pittsfield City Council approved the ban back in March.

Businesses in Pittsfield will no longer be able to provide shoppers with thin-film single-use plastic bags at checkout.

That doesn't include dry cleaner bags, newspaper bags, or those bags you use to hold fresh produce, meats, and fish.

Businesses could be fined up to $100 for each violation.
