BALLSTON - The train involved in a deadly crash in the town of Ballston on Sunday was an Amtrak train that hit a car. That's according to Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo.

The train was heading to Montreal with 102 passengers on board.

The sheriff's office says the driver who was killed was 73-year-old Timothy Smith.

It happened on Zepko Lane around noon Sunday. The road is between Church Avenue and the Zim Smith Trail.

Smith lived at 101 Zepko Lane.

What's not yet clear is why his car was in the train's path. Canadian Pacific police are looking into that.
