BUFFALO--  A Buffalo police officer and a New York State trooper were hit by a vehicle at a protest over the death of George Floyd.

A large group of officers were gathered Monday night when a protester drove a truck into the crowd of police, then continued driving down the road.

The two officers were hurt and taken to the hospital.

The incident happened after numerous officers tackled protesters and released tear gas.

A video was posted to social media showing the attack. Warning, the video may be disturbing to some. NewsChannel 13 stopped the video before the actual impact because of its graphic nature.

NewsChannel 13 has learned that the trooper that was struck has serious injuries, but is expected to be okay. The Buffalo police officer also has serious injuries, and underwent surgery overnight. Both are currently in stable condition.

The mayor is now calling for unity.

Police say the driver and three passengers in that vehicle were caught. So far, no official charges have been filed.

The incident is still under investigation.

NewsChannel 13 will provide more details as soon as they become available.
