A Cohoes man is accused of choking a woman while she was holding their 5-month-old.

Rensselaer police have charged Gerald Batcher III of assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The victim's injuries were treated at the scene.

Investigators arrested Batcher Saturday night after they say he was found hiding in the back of the house. He was arraigned and released.

An hour later police say he showed up at the house, violating an order of protection that was just issued.

He's now in the Rensselaer County Jail.
