CATSKILL - After reporting the Greene County Jail was on a list of the worst county jails in the state, NewsChannel 13 took a tour Friday.

Among the issues we saw include crumbling walls and a hole in a ceiling.

For more than 20 years, there's been a push for a new jail.  The state has set aside the land, but county lawmakers have not agreed to spend the money.

There's talk of moving the jail to Columbia County.

"We gave away the hospital already, we gave away our community college, we gave away our humane society. I am the sheriff that's out in this county all day long and I speak to the people who put me in this office and adamantly, they do not want this correctional facility to go to Columbia County," said Greene County Sheriff Greg Seeley.

The sheriff hoped to start construction on a new jail last year, but it's still delayed.
