Rally supporting Planned Parenthood held at state Capitol

By many accounts, it's been a good year for women in New York state.
Even though the Reproductive Health Act signed into law earlier this year by Governor Cuomo codified abortion rights for women, women were back at the Capitol, rallying for more.
Women were not only celebrating that they have a "place at the table" in New York, that they are "in the room." They made it quite clear, Planned Parenthood is in the room with them.
The Empire State Plaza Convention Center morphed into a room of pink as Planned Parenthood crusaders gathered for their annual "Lobbying Day."
The line-up of heavy hitters told them what they wanted to hear.
"We will always do everything we can to protect the woman, her body, her choice, her feelings, her freedoms," said Democratic Assem. Speaker Carl Heastie.
The state Assembly was already in Planned Parenthood's corner, but when the Senate turned blue this year, the entire Legislature turned pink.
"On a national level, the forces that would keep us down continue to mobilize and amass. They continue even here in New York," said Senator and Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
In other words, the Planned Parenthood crusade knows they need to remain vigilant.
"Yes, the glass is more than half-full and women have made incredible strides, especially here in the state of New York. We know around the world in some ways, things have regressed," said Democratic Assemblywoman Pat Fahy of Albany.
"Healthcare, my friends is not a privilege. It's a right," said Democratic Attorney General Tish James.
James accuses the Trump administration of dismantling women's rights.
"What do we do when our rights, when our basic rights, when our fundamental rights are under attack? We've got to stand up and fight back," she said.
To drive home the point, actress Ilana Glazer electrified the crowd.
"It's not cool when someone owns your body. It’s not chill to live in fear of your rights being taken away and you have made New York just a cooler, chiller version of itself," said Glazer.
