New York's newest gun control measure, the Red Flag Law, goes into effect Saturday.

The legislation approved earlier this year will allow certain authorities to seek the temporary removal of guns from people who pose a threat to themselves or the public.

Police and school officials will be able request from a court a temporary extreme risk protection order.

District attorneys and household members can also request one, even if the person in question has not been charged with a crime.
