Funeral held for Rensselaer mayor

RENSSELAER - A funeral service was held Monday for Rensselaer Mayor Dan Dwyer.

Friends and family gathered at the Church of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph.

City Hall was closed so city employees could attend the service.

Dwyer died last week. He was a Korean War veteran who served the city of Rensselaer in various capacities starting in the early 1960s.

Rensselaer City Council President Rich Mooney is now taking over as mayor.

Mayor Dan Dwyer was 84 years old.
