The legislature will not be banning Styrofoam products in the county, but will urge the state to consider the ban.

Styrofoam plates and cups do not break down. Over the course of a year, worldwide, the amount of Styrofoam produced will create 2.3 million tons of landfill waste.

Advocates for Styrofoam products say that Styrofoam cups keep beverages warmer for longer. They say it is cheap to produce and more affordable for some people.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Rensselaer County Office Building.
