As snow clean up continues, homeowners across the Capital Region are picking up roof rakes at local hardware stores.

Roof raking can prevent thousands of dollars of damage for homeowners. Ice jams can cause gutters to break. Heavy amounts of snow left on a roof could become dangerously heavy if rain water packs it down.

Raking prevents ice and snow from building up in gutters and along the edges of a roof.

Roof rakes cost as little as $50.

Jacquie Slater met with a contractor to see how to use one properly. Watch Justin Platt with J.C. Platt builders demonstrate by clicking the video.
