ALBANY, NY - A man who pleaded guilty to grand larceny is due in court Tuesday to learn his sentence.
Dakota Smith of Saratoga Springs wrote $353,000 in checks from the New York State Weatherization Directors Association to himself and his construction business.
When his bank asked about the unusual activity, Smith provided a forged contract from the association, which was where his mom worked.
Dakota's mom, Randi Smith, also pleaded guilty to grand larceny for writing checks to herself from the same account and making up fake invoices to cover up her crimes.
Both mother and son face prison time and have to pay back the money.
