SARATOGA SPRINGS - Reading, writing and 'rithmetic couldn't have been farther from High Rock Park Monday.

Although there was some spelling.
"F-U-N!" 8-year-old Amelie exuberantly spelled out what she and pal Ava were experiencing.

A reporter asked the girls if they would have rather been at school.  "No! Of course not," said Amelie. "Why would I?" she asked before Ava added "I would rather be here." Amelie: "Yeah, I would definitely be here. It's amazing."

The girls even brought their dads along. Ava's father got a snow day from his construction job.
"I do get one. I get to come out and enjoy the snow, and play with the girls for the first snowfall of the year," said Josh Fitzgibbon.

Over in Stillwater, Amoun Ghorayeb started his snow day with a swim. In the snow. In his swim trunks.

"Would you rather have been in school today or been swimming and diving in the snow without any clothes on? Amoun: "Swimming and diving in the snow."
His mom endorsed it.
As the snow fell harder, the sledding crowds started to grow bigger in Wilton and Saratoga Springs.
"Saratoga is a pretty snowy place," Amelie observed.

Kids here weren't thinking about the three snow days they've already had, with only four allotted for the entire year.

But their superintendent is.

"This is an unusual year that we've never had in my 23 years in education, you know three emergency days and it's only December 2nd," said Dr. Michael Patton. "So we've got a long winter head of us, but ultimately it's our responsibility to make sure our students and staff are getting to and from school safely."

Patton said if the district needs more than its four allotted days, school will be held on the Friday before Memorial Day.
