SCHENECTADY - A building with a troubled past was demolished in Schenectady on Friday. It's all to make more room for a new library.

The old Chubby's Pizza on Crane Street was an infamous spot with a lot of police calls over the years – some that led to serious criminal charges.

The construction is being welcomed with open arms. In all, it's a multi-million investment of both public and private money to give the neighborhood better access to books and digital services.

"We're going to put the 'pleasant' back in Mont Pleasant," said Patricia Smith with the Mont Pleasant Neighborhood Association. "We're going to make it a wonderful place for people to live back in Mont Pleasant again."

The new library will replace the current branch next door.
